Last night Randy and I hopped on the MAX and headed over to PGE park to watch the Portland Beavers take on the Salt Lake City Bees.
The Portland Beavers are a triple-A affiliate to the San Diego Padres and since Portland doesn't have a major league team, it's the closest we can get to the real deal. ALSO, it was Comcast customer appreciation night i.e. here are 2 free tickets to the Portland Beavers game and by the way, your bill will be going up next month, but thanks for being a valued customer.
The Beavers won 5-3 in what was not the most action packed game we've every watched. That being said, there were a few memorable moments; a fly ball hit high above home plate that shattered one of the overhead lights, spraying glass on spectators below. Another fly ball hit over the 3rd base foul line and into a small dining area hitting a mother holding her baby. From where we were sitting it looked like the foul ball actually hit the baby. A pretty scary moment really. Thankfully medical staff rushed in and a few minutes later it appeared that all parties involved were ok. And lastly, on the ride home from the game, hearing the woman sitting next to us on the MAX explain to her daughter the benefits of drug use, "i'm sorry to say, but being high just makes everything better." wow, seriously! It's no wonder there are troubled kids in the world today. Thanks Momma Wilson for never giving me that advice!

Yes ...I am very glad your Mom never gave you that advice!!
Wow! We've been talking about taking the kids to a game, but on second thought, it sounds like a real hazard. I guess we could just wear our bicycle helmets. Sounds like you guys had an exciting time though.
Seriously, that mom infuriates me!
Wow Katie, that is one crazy story, especially the part about drugs being good. I can imgaine it was hard not to say something to that lady. People are nuts.
Well, honey, you're welcome on the drugs bit. It was always my policy to TELL YOU KIDS THE TRUTH, and NOT LIE about things, and to generally lead you to the good places in life! Holy shmoly, some kids have it hard because of their parents!
Glad you got to go to the game although I am relieved you weren't sliced to bits by flying glass, or smacked in the head by a fly ball, or convinced to take up the drug life. Maybe on your next date you should just stay home and throw knives, and play with matches, and run with scissors.
Love ya,
Mom
dang. that is just sad to hear that a mother would say that to her child (and probably really believe it herself).
LOL Woodengirl !!!
What an eventful night! Sounds lie enough happened to make it interesting even with the baseball!
Hey Mom, I gotta say it sounds like that lady had the same policy to tell her kids the truth, too...just a slightly different perspective...ha ha.
Ha ha, yes, Jane, I suppose that is true. That mother was telling her child what she knew to be her truth. Too bad her truth is so dangerous and unhealthy for the body and spirit and future of her child.
It makes me thankful for my own mother who taught me a better truth.
